A few years ago, I had no idea what ear candles were. Just a few days ago (February 2025), I tried them for the first time. My first ones were Medo candles – Turmeric. On their website, it says they help with colds, earaches, headaches, throat and tooth pain, migraines, sinus and tonsil inflammation, and may even help reduce ringing in the ears, among other things.

The ancient method of ear candle therapy

Applying an ear candle is an ancient natural method where the heat from the candle affects the ear’s reflex zones. It’s always important to use the candles on both ears to balance the right and left hemispheres of the brain.

My experience with ear candles

When I decided to try them, I prepared everything I needed:

• a glass of water to extinguish the candle

• my phone camera for checking

• a comfortable pillow

The protective disk that comes with the candle broke in half because I bent it awkwardly — luckily, adhesive tape saved the day.

How to apply the ear candle correctly

While searching for information online, I found mixed recommendations. Some suggested starting with the ear that has a problem, others said to always begin with the right ear. I chose the left ear, following my intuition.

Before applying the candle, I gently massaged the area behind my ear toward the neck. This area is connected to the lymphatic system, so gentle stimulation can enhance the candle’s healing effect. When doing the right ear, I forgot this step, so I did it afterward.

The process took about 20 minutes. I didn’t time it exactly, but it went by quickly. I kept checking to make sure the gauze in my ear hadn’t loosened — the candle forms small clumps, and I didn’t want any to remain inside.

How I felt after the therapy

After the session, I felt as if someone had “washed my brain” — in the best possible way. It was a very pleasant and relaxing feeling.

I’m glad I did it in the evening before bed. I can’t imagine doing it during the day and then going about my activities — for me, it was perfect relaxation and a quick way to switch off my mind.

My experience with body candles

Although ear candles were new to me, I’ve been using body candles for a while. I apply them as needed — always intuitively.

My favorite spots for body candles are:

• the navel

• the solar plexus

• the heart area

The effect of body candles is very calming, similar to ear candles. I once read that they shouldn’t be applied to the third eye, and I personally don’t feel good about that either, so I don’t do it.

Are ear candles worth trying?

If you’re thinking about trying them — go for it. I found that ear candles can be a great addition to home therapy routines, bringing relaxation, balance, and a sense of cleansing.

Benefits of ear candles:

• Help with sinus congestion and colds

• Reduce ringing in the ears

• Prevent earwax buildup

• Improve circulation and body balance

• Promote relaxation and calmness

Ear candles are a simple, safe, and pleasant therapy that anyone can try. Just choose high-quality candles, follow the proper steps, and enjoy the deep sense of relaxation. I’m truly grateful for the experience.

PS: I have no collaboration with Medo candles and this is not a paid promotion (though it kind of is, in a way). I’m simply writing about them because they were the first ones I tried — and honestly, they’re really good.
