Headaches that not even an ordinary pill can relieve — I know them well. These constant headaches were among several symptoms of the severe depression I experienced about six years before writing this article.

Until I understood what this intense headaches wanted to tell me and what it was trying to warn me about, it kept accompanying me. At that time, my head was filled with endless thoughts. I couldn’t switch off, slow down, or stay silent for even a moment. My thoughts ran nonstop — and so did the pain.

The heart whispers while the head roars.

That’s why many people can’t hear their inner voice, intuition, or heart. The heart whispers, while the head makes noise. This noise often drowns out everything that quietly calls for our attention inside. And instead of listening, we surround ourselves with even more noise — turning on the TV, the radio, or anything that “protects” us from our inner world.

But when everything goes silent, fears, anger, resentment, hatred, and all the trapped emotions begin to surface. We’ve suppressed them so many times that eventually they build up and explode — like a volcano.

This eruption often manifests as illness — whether it’s migraines, severe headaches, or more serious conditions like depression, cancer, and others. Everyone can relate it to their own experience.

Over time, I realized that the head is closely connected to the gut. When we try to “digest” unprocessed emotions by eating heavy food, the body starts sending signals. And it’s no coincidence that after lunch we often reach for coffee to “wake up.” The body is interconnected, and everything we experience manifests outwardly.

To get rid of headaches or any illness, we must cleanse ourselves from within. What helped me the most were therapies — guided sessions where an experienced therapist leads a person back to their most painful life moments. That’s where the roots of our current problems lie. Yes, it takes courage — but only by returning to those painful memories can true healing begin.

For some, changing their diet is enough; for others, deeper inner work is needed. Every person has their own unique path. What worked for one may not work for another. Each of us has something to understand, to learn — and that’s the beauty of the journey.

If someone tells you something is impossible, don’t believe them. They’re speaking from their own experience, which has nothing to do with yours. You must find your own answers. It takes patience and perseverance. Illness doesn’t appear overnight, even if it sometimes seems that way.

Headaches — or any illness — arise from long-term suppression.

Think about how many times you received warnings — small stops, injuries, accidents — before the illness showed up. How many times did your soul try to slow you down so you would finally listen?

And so illness comes. It slows you down so you can reevaluate your life — to see things differently, from a new perspective. But instead, we do what we’re used to — we rush to a doctor or a healer, hoping they will cure us. The truth, however, is that the only person who can truly do it is ourselves.

I am the author of the book How to Heal? My Journey of Healing from Depression Without Medication. And Not Only from That. It was accompanied by nonstop migraines, anxiety, panic attacks, and suicidal thoughts. The first time, I completely healed in 8 months, and about 10 years later, in 1 year and 3 months. It was a path of changes I had to make if I truly wanted to be healthy. I succeeded.
